Many conditions can be relieved by regular practice of yoga - see the Links (articles) page for the many benefits of yoga. If you have any medical problems please check with your GP before enrolling on a course.

What should I wear?
Wear unrestrictive clothing with ankles and knees visible for safety. Shorts and T-shirt are ideal. Leggings are OK as long as they are not baggy or trailing on the floor. Yoga is always practised in bare feet. Socks and warmer clothing can be worn for Savasana (relaxation) at the end of class.

Do I need equipment?
Iyengar Yoga sometimes use blocks and belts to help a student achieve their full potential .

Can I eat before a class?
Leave four hours after a heavy meal and one hour after a light snack. Do not drink during a yoga class. You can drink as much as you like after class has finished.

My body is really stiff can i do this kind of yoga ?
Iyengar yoga is for everyone, irrespective of age, gender, health or flexibility. Regular practice builds suppleness, flexibility and strength. Iyengar teachers concentrate on precision and alignment and your postures are adjusted if necessary, so a safe, correct practice is achieved.

Will I have to meditate?
Each asana (yoga pose) requires concentration, this focus means the mind is in the 'present moment' and in time the asanas become a meditation in themselves. There is a relaxation at the end of class when you can totally relax the mind and body.

Always inform your teacher of any medical conditions. If you are menstruating, certain asanas are not suitable and alternatives will be given.

Etiquette for class:

  • Please switch off/have on silent your mobile phone.
